Director Suparn Verma reacted after Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani, Karan Johar and Farah Khan praised his legal-drama Haq. He thanked everyone for appreciating the film starring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles.

The director’s post read, “To be loved and appreciated by your peers and audience alike is what dreams are made of! On behalf of team #Haq, we can’t describe the amazing feeling when your day starts with @TheFarahKhan, @advani_kiara, @aliaa08 posting about your love for @yamigautam @emraanhashmi and the film and ends with #KkaranJohar being so generous in praise of you as an artiste. This is the day we all aspire to. Heartfelt gratitude for the love and appreciation Haq has received from every corner of the world with the debut of @NetflixIndia.

Haq is inspired by Shah Bano’s fight for justice in the landmark 1985 case that led to the Supreme Court granting maintenance rights to divorced Muslim women. The film focuses on the battle for dignity fought by the heroine Shazia (Yami). Shazia, a housewife with no educational qualifications, gets married to a lawyer named Abbas Khan (Imran). Her life turns upside down when one day Abbas marries another wife and ends their marriage through triple talaq. The rest of the film describes her legal battle for the rights of her children and her financial sovereignty.

India Today in its review Rightwrote, “In the end, Suparn Verma handles an extremely sensitive subject with rare restraint and grace, and Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi rise to the occasion with two of their most level-headed performances. Right is a steady, courageous film that doesn’t beg for your sympathy; It earns your respect. It also reminds you that standing up for your dignity is indeed your right.”

Right Available for streaming on Netflix.
