Happy Patel Khatranak Jasoos Movie Review: Aamir Khan and Vir Das’ film is all about ‘Read Between the Lines’

plot:

A local don, played by Aamir Khan, leaves the entire Goa of Panjor engulfed in violence, before being fatally shot by two British agents. The agents’ housekeeper is killed as collateral damage, and her child is taken back to London to be raised by them. They have named the boy Happy Patel, played by Veer Das. Happy is a gentleman who has not inherited his adoptive father’s killer instincts and has failed MI7 (Military Intelligence) testing for seven consecutive years. While his father encourages him, Happy wants to find his inner calling. MI has tasked the agents with a new mission in India: to rescue a white woman held captive by ruthless local don Mama, played by Mona Singh.

Having previously suffered trauma in Goa, the agents initially reject the mission. However, Happy recognizes his Indian roots and takes charge despite his inexperience. The story unfolds as he reaches Goa, finds out if he succeeds in the mission, manages to make a life in India, and finally discovers his true self.

what works:

Veer Das’s brilliant writing is the real hero of the film. The subtle satire on a powerful personality, the judicious use of profanity and the inclusion of adult humour, all this will leave you in splits. Yes, you read it right – the smart and thoughtful writing of dialogues, situations and sentences will make you laugh until your heart hurts. In the elite cinematic world, addressing the above topics may result in producers facing numerous legal and defamation cases; However, Happy Patel just makes you laugh. The Delhi Belly references and Aamir Khan and Imran Khan’s cameos add a solid punch to the story.

What is not:

Given that Aamir Khan Productions’ previous ventures, such as Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Delhi Belly, and Taare Zameen Par, have delivered soulful and chart-busting music, Happy Patel Khatranak Jasoos felt lacking in this department. The climax of the film does not do justice to the seriousness of the story; I expected a more weighty and impactful conclusion.

Display:

  • Aamir Khan: You will completely forget that you are watching Aamir Khan on screen; He has completely immersed himself in the character. His grasp of the smallest of details really sets him apart.
  • Veer Das: Where does one begin to praise this man! He is incredibly talented and there is never a dull moment when he is on screen. He carries the entire film on his shoulders with his ‘Swad Anwara’ (according to taste) broken Hindi.
  • Mona Singh: Had you ever imagined Mona Singh playing the role of a dreaded local don so beautifully? Every time she appears on screen, you know the unexpected is bound to happen.
  • Mithila Palkar: Mithila, known for her girl-next-door image, as Roopa, will surprise you with her outstanding ability.
  • Sharib Hashmi: He was a joy to watch as Geet, bringing laughter every time he came on screen.
  • Srishti Tawde: She gives capable support as Roxy and plays a very important role in the film despite limited screen time.

final call:

If you are a cricket lover then Happy Patel has a surprise for you. Identify it if you can! Whether Happy Patel makes the cash counters ring or not remains to be seen, but we can assure you that it will make you laugh twice as hard. This is a happy pa (story).
