Priyanka Chopra is a global face whom the world looks up to thanks to her successful career as an actress. Having become an icon on the strength of her own merit, Priyanka Chopra celebrates her 42nd birthday today (July 18) and it seems like the right time to reveal that our Desi Girl didn’t always want to be an actress.
What did Priyanka Chopra want to become?
The Bajirao Mastani actress wanted to become an aeronautical engineer. We know this might surprise you. In an interview with Star World India, Priyanka Chopra spoke about how she likes to challenge the status quo and wants to try out all her ideas to fulfill any idea or dream of hers.
Priyanka Chopra said she has been making public appearances since the age of 17. “After winning Miss India and then Miss World, I suddenly went from being an aeronautical engineer, a carefree teenager to being on the world stage where I have to give my perspective on possibly the most important world events,” she said.
Fun fact: It was her brother who got her enrolled in the Miss India contest, which completely changed the direction of her career and put an end to her dream of joining NASA.

Who convinced Priyanka Chopra to enter showbiz?
It was her mother Madhu Chopra. Right after becoming Miss World, Priyanka got an offer to work in Majith’s 2002 courtroom drama film Thamizhan, but she broke down in tears upon learning about it. In an interview to Filmigyan, Mrs Madhu revealed, “Priyanka did not want to work in films. When I told Priyanka about the offer, she broke down in tears and said, ‘I am not doing films.'”
Being an obedient child, Priyanka always accepted the offer after Madhu Chopra’s insistence. In the same interview, PC’s mother revealed that, eventually, the actress got the hang of it and started liking it. “Despite not knowing the language, she enjoyed it. The team helped her and treated her with a lot of respect… She would practice with the choreographer from morning to evening,” mother Chopra said.
The Tamil film ‘Thamizhan’ starred Vijay in the lead role and was Priyanka’s first and last Tamil film. She made her Bollywood debut with ‘The Hero’ in 2003 and ventured west in 2015 with the TV series ‘Quantico’.
