Hands-on review of Xiaomi Redmi 13 5G

Must read

Introduction

The Redmi 13 5G is a variant of the Redmi 13 that we have already seen in a detailed review. You probably won’t think much of it, given that the only difference is the addition of 5G in the name, but there are some key differences hidden beneath that title.

For starters, the Redmi 13 5G has the same basic display as the Redmi 13, but it refreshes at a more pleasant 120Hz instead of 90Hz. The 5G model comes with faster UFS 2.2 storage compared to eMMC 5.1 storage.

But by far the biggest difference is that the 5G model runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset instead of the MediaTek Helio G91 on the non-5G model. The Qualcomm chip is almost at a different level of performance than the G91, which should be interesting to see in the performance section.

Apart from that, both the phones are similar. This makes it a somewhat straightforward matter, because the thing we are most interested in looking at is the performance difference. So let’s move ahead.

The packaging of Redmi 13 5G is the same as Redmi 13. The only difference is that our Indian review unit came with a charger, as is standard practice for Xiaomi devices in India.

The charger, specifically, is a 33W unit, which is the same charging level supported by non-5G models. This means both models should theoretically have similar charging speeds, although we’ll confirm this later.

The packaging also includes a clear soft silicone case. The case is a bit difficult to attach and remove and the power button is a bit too far back. However, for a free case, it’s of good quality, provided it doesn’t yellow over time.
