Haley Lu Richardson on misogyny in Hollywood, calls Emilia Clarke her safest co-star
Haley Lu Richardson opened up about facing gender discrimination in Hollywood and how her experiences have often differed from those of male actors.
Actress Haley Lu Richardson has opened up about experiencing gender discrimination in Hollywood and revealed that working with Ponies co-star Emilia Clarke made her feel the safest she has ever felt on set.
during a conversation with HT CityRichardson reflected on the deep-rooted misogyny that still persists in the entertainment industry and how her experiences have often differed from those of her male counterparts.
Speaking about the issue, Richardson shared, “It just depends on what environment you’re in and who you’re exposed to. But sometimes I encounter misogyny, and it feels like, ‘Wow, it still exists, it’s everywhere’.”
She further explained that the inequality became apparent from her conversations with men in the industry. “People I’ve worked with or dated in this industry, I’ve noticed have had a different experience than me. Every person obviously has a different experience, but there are things I’ve experienced differently because I’m a woman. Some of the actors I’ve dated in the past have even asked me, ‘This is a thing? ‘Is this a problem?’ And I say, ‘Yes, it is.'”
However, his experience on the set pony Came up for a very different reason. Praising Clarke, Richardson said, “I thought it was the safest experience I’ve ever felt with a co-star, and I’ve had some great co-stars. She’s really great.”
She added, “It was such a safe environment with him that sometimes, we would just look at each other, and I felt calm and safe. Sometimes we didn’t even need to talk; we would just sit in the green room, hold each other’s hands and just breathe, and it felt like replenishment for the soul. We were really great supportive partners to each other.”
