Gulshan Devaiah says he doesn’t get along well with ‘Uljhan’ co-star Janhvi Kapoor

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who shares the screen with Janhvi Kapoor in the upcoming action-thriller Ulj, recently said that he did not get a ‘vibe’ with her on the sets of the film. He mentioned that though they worked as professionals, they did not have a friendly relationship. Mirzapur fame actor Vijay Verma reacted to Devaiah’s comment and said that people need to learn that actors do not necessarily become ‘family’ while shooting their films.

in a recent interview Film CompanionDevaiah said, “We don’t really connect like that. It’s not like we’re sitting and chatting. We don’t really connect at all.” Janhvi laughed at her co-star’s claim and said, “That’s the funniest thing you’ve ever said.”

However, Gulshan Devaiah added, “Initially, it felt like ‘Bhai, you’re not doing well.’ It’s not going to happen that we’ll spend time, get to know someone and use that acquaintance in the performance. It’s not going to happen. That happens in other places. With other actors, you connect in that way, you don’t necessarily become friends, but you find something in common or interesting things in them or something to do together. But I never felt like it was coming in the way of doing our scenes. It never felt like ‘Oh, I’m not getting enough or something is missing’.”

Devaiah said that despite their strictly professional relationship, Ulaj director Sudhanshu Saria got what he expected from her and Janhavi. “Still, whatever he wanted (pointing towards the director) he was getting, and that is because she is a professional actress, and she is doing her job,” Devaiah said.

Janhvi recalled how once on the sets of Ulaj she was asked to laugh a little more at Devaiah’s jokes to make him feel comfortable, as he might be feeling intimidated.

She said, “Once I got a call on the set saying, ‘You and Gulshan should go for coffee together because you are not cracking jokes in between shots.’ She was saying, ‘You should laugh more at his jokes, otherwise he might feel intimidated, I don’t know what’s going on.'”

As soon as the excerpt of the interview was shared on social media, actor Vijay Varma reacted to it and agreed with Devaiah. He commented on the video saying that people are only “trained and prepared to hear the story of ‘we were like a family’. They need training, not @gulshandevaiah78.”

Praising Devaiah, he said, “Tu mast aadmi hai re Gullu (You are a great person Gullu (Devaiah’s nickname)) and with the talent and personality you have… I know you don’t get intimidated easily (knife emoji).”

Written by Parveez Sheikh and Sudhanshu Saria, ‘Uljhan’ will release in theatres on August 2.
