Google is making it clear that AI is very important for the company. In its latest declaration, it has carried forward the AI-Fication of Google Search. The company has announced that it is testing a new AI-format only on Google Search, called AI Mode, which will basically be a search-centered chatbot. Think of it as a search for chat. Currently, this feature is in testing and is available only to the Google One AI premium (Rs 1,950 per month) customers, which will also require to enable the facility in the labs section.

Essentially, Google wants that with AI mode which will be based on Gemini 2.0, users can mainly search to achieve AI-generated results. This will be enabled by a tole on Google search, switching that will turn on AI mode. When the AI mode turns on, users will get back the AI-borne answer for their questions, which will be based on everything in Google’s search index. The reactions will be supported with a link to the source of information.

The VP of the product in Google Search, Robbie Stein wrote in a blog post, “You can first ask a fine question, which can first take several discoveries such as searching a new concept or getting a supportive AI-powered response with links to compare and learn more.” You can also ask follow -up questions in AI mode, he says.

Google wants you to think of AI mode as an extension, or the next step after AI observation. “This new search mode expands what AI overview can do with more advanced logic, thinking and multimodal abilities so that you can also take help with your most difficult questions,” Stein says.

However, Google says that when he wants to show AI reactions as much as possible, it may not be able to do so for all types of questions. And in that case, it will only show users web search results in AI mode. The blogpost reads, “We aim to show AI-operated response as much as possible, but in cases where we do not have high confidence in help and quality, the response will be a set of web search results.”

An update for AI observation has also been declared. Google has also announced that it is expanding the AI overview on the discovery. This means, AI observation will be shown for more subjects, and even for users who are logged out of Google. The company has also announced that it is now using Gemini 2.0 for AI overview in the US, “Help with harder questions, starting with coding, advanced mathematics and multimodal queries”. Google says that with Gemini 2.0, AI observation reactions will be “sharp and (high quality) high quality”. Stein announced in a blog post, “In addition, we are rolling for more people: Kishore can now use AI overview, and you no longer need to sign in to get access.”
