Google TV Streamer announced, an AI-powered replacement to Google Chromecast

After a good run of 11 years, Google has discontinued the Chromecast line. Google on Tuesday announced its latest set-up streaming box, the Google TV Streamer. According to the company, it is designed to give you the best entertainment and smart home experience. The latest device brings its features to the next generation of 4K TV streaming devices – but as a faster, more premium version than the Chromecast. Starting today, August 6, the Google TV Streamer can be pre-ordered, and it will hit the market on September 24, priced at $99.99 (roughly Rs. 8,400), available for purchase from the Google Store as well as various third-party retailers.
Google says the streamer has a 22 percent faster processor, which is a little less than we expected, given that the Chromecast 4K model is from 2020. Another notable improvement is doubling the RAM (up to 4GB) and quadrupling the on-board storage (up to 32GB).
Google TV Streamer: Key Features and Details
The Google TV Streamer is available in two neutral colours: Porcelain and Hazel. The Hazel variant is only available in the US Google Store. Along with the set-top box, the company has redesigned the voice remote to make it easier for users. Users can also program its new customisable button to quickly open their favourite app, switch inputs or launch the Google Home panel with just a click. It now supports “Find My Remote”. You can press a button on the back of the Google TV Streamer and the remote will start beeping. It can also be activated with voice commands, but for that you will need a Pixel phone or a Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker.
According to the company, the Google TV Streamer has an improved processor, double the memory and 32GB of storage, which makes app loading time faster and navigation easier than the previous generation Chromecast. It also features 4K HDR with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Users can connect their Google TV Streamer to a Wi-Fi network or use an Ethernet port.
Google TV Streamer offers access to over 700,000 movies and shows from YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV and other streaming apps, plus live TV along with over 800 free channels. It’s also built to use Google AI, Gemini, to curate content suggestions across all subscriptions. Thanks to Gemini technology, users can now get full content summaries, reviews and season-by-season breakdowns, so finding your next marathon-watch just got easier.
