Google has released a new software update for its Pixel phones, adding a number of interesting and useful features. One of the most notable additions is a tool that simplifies identifying unknown callers, which popular apps like Truecaller offer. This update is set to make it more convenient for Pixel users to manage incoming calls.

One of the most notable features in this update is “Reverse Phone Number Lookup.” This function allows users to identify unknown numbers directly from their call logs without the need for a third-party app. When an unfamiliar number appears in the “Recent” tab of the Phone app, users can simply tap on the number and select “Lookup.” This initiates a search that retrieves any available information about the caller, providing a fast way to uncover the identity of unknown callers.

Another impressive addition is the “Power-off Finding” feature, which is integrated into the Find My Device network. This functionality enables Pixel users to track their devices even when they are turned off. Google explains that it works by sending a final ping with the phone’s last known location just before the battery runs out or the device is manually turned off. This innovative approach ensures that users can find their Pixel 8 or Pixel Pro device even several hours after the power goes out. It is currently unknown if both these features are being rolled out globally in markets like India.

The Pixel Recorder app has also received a significant upgrade. Starting June 11, the app can produce more comprehensive summaries of recorded content. These summaries will now include the names of speakers, making it easier for users to keep track of who said what during a meeting or interview. Additionally, important transcriptions can now be exported directly to Google Docs or plain text files, simplifying the process of managing recorded information.

For photography enthusiasts, Google has made improvements to the Pixel camera. The new HDR Plus feature allows users to capture the best moments in a single shot by automatically detecting smiles and ensuring subjects are in focus. The feature is available for Pixel 6 and newer models, as well as the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold.

In addition, the update includes “Manual Lens Expansion”, which gives users the ability to manually choose which camera lens to use when taking photos. This provides more control over the photographic process and is available on the Pixel 8 Pro, 7 Pro, 6 Pro, and Pixel Fold.
