Google Pixel phones have a nifty little feature called Call Notes: Here’s how it works

Google has finally introduced the special Gemini feature on the new Pixel 9 device. During the Made by Google event held on August 13, the company revealed that while Gemini is present on many Android devices, Google has released several features for the Google Pixel 9 series. Google claims that the new series is designed for the Gemini era. These AI-powered features include Call Notes, Pixel Studio, Pixel Screenshot, and more. Here we will talk about the Call Notes feature and how it works.

What are call notes?

The new Call Notes feature sends a personal summary and full transcript of the phone call to the user immediately after the call hangs up. This feature ensures that you don’t have to rush to get a paper and pen to write down important information. Call Notes will note down all the details from the conversation, but, of course, with the user’s permission. When the feature is turned on, it will also notify the caller, so that transparency is maintained in the call.

Call Notes requires permission and is designed not to start automatically. The app will show you a popup asking you to allow it to start.

How does this work?

Google’s Call Notes makes call management easy. All you have to do is open the Google Phone app, view the contact details, and a brief call summary appears. Tap for detailed information, and you’ll be able to access a detailed call record, eliminating the need for manual note-taking.

Google has published some examples of how call notes can be presented to users. In one example, where a call participant asked for items from the store, the summary reads: “The teller asked for several items from the grocery store including: ginger cookies near the register, hazelnut dark chocolate wafers, strawberry ice cream (not gelato), pork chops, garlic, a white onion, green beans, and potatoes.”

In another example, the call notes rewrote a takeaway order: “Called Hero’s Hoagies to place a pickup order for Robert. Order included: a large California Club on wheat with bacon and everything that comes with it. A large Smoked Chicken on white with everything except Thunder Sauce, along with provolone and pickles.”

The Call Notes feature is available on all models of the Google Pixel 9 series: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This targeted rollout suggests that Google is focusing on optimizing this feature for its latest devices before potentially expanding it to older models in the future.

Google’s Call Notes feature protects your privacy by keeping call summary data confined to your device, avoiding cloud transmission with local storage and processing, reducing the risk of a data breach and keeping your personal information secure.
