Google may finally let you change your Gmail address without losing old emails: Here’s how it’ll work
It appears that Google is working on a new feature that will eventually allow you to change your Gmail address, but with some restrictions. Here’s everything you need to know about how this feature might work.

Have you ever wanted to change your Gmail address? Perhaps you created your account years ago, and the Gmail address no longer looks professional? Well, it looks like Google may soon allow you to change your Gmail ID while maintaining the same account. Here’s what this might mean for you.
When will Gmail username changes be available?
Currently, there is no official information available regarding the timeline for the global release of this feature. However, the Google support page indicates that the tech giant is planning to launch it soon. According to the website, users will soon be able to change their Gmail address.
The support page detailing the new process is currently visible only in Hindi, which may indicate that the feature is coming to India soon.
Will users be able to change their Gmail email address completely?
Yes, according to the Google support page, users will get the opportunity to change their Gmail address completely. The page says, “If your Google Account email address ends in gmail.com, you can replace it with an address that ends in @gmail.com.”
Once you make the change, you can use the new Gmail address to receive emails while keeping your old email intact. Additionally, your old Gmail address will still serve as the secondary address for your account, other users will not be able to access it. This way, if someone is sending you an email with an old address, you won’t miss it.
There are some restrictions on how you can change your email address. Users can change their Gmail ID only once every 12 months. And you can change the Gmail address only three times for one account.
If you want, you can also use the old Gmail ID to create a new account, but only after a period of 12 months.
Who will be eligible to change their Gmail username?
It seems that most of the users with Gmail ID will be able to use this feature. However, the Google support page states that if your “email address for your Google Account is established by your work, school, or other group,” you’ll need to contact your administrator to change the address. Thus, this feature may be limited to individual Gmail accounts.
