The identity of Google Cloud and a serious problem within the Access Management (IAM) system triggered wide outage on Thursday. The bug affected the user authentication and access permissions, leading to failures in many dependent apps and services.
-Major online services, including Gmail, Openai Tools such as Chatgpt, Spotify, and various Google Home/Nest devices, faced interruptions. Users reported strange error messages, failed login and connection problems in various apps and smart devices. Problems began around ET at 1:51 pm when users began reporting issues using services relying on Google Cloud.
-Sal users and company officials quickly flagged off the issue on platforms such as X (East Twitter), Google’s official acknowledged later. At around 6:16 pm, on ET, Google updated its cloud status page, which confirms a service effect bound by IAM failures. The recovery began shortly after, most of the services were restored till late evening.
-Cloudflare, which supports material distribution and safety for various websites, also reported a disruption. However, it was clarified that only parts of its service, which rely on the Google Cloud, were impressed. Replette CEO Amjad Masad was one of the first people to publicly confirmed that Google Cloud was behind wide outage. After this initial head-up, Google confirmed that “many GCP products are experienced by the impact of the identification and the issue of access management service.”
