‘Gladiator’ stunt director Nick Powell talks about working with Janhvi in ’Uljhan’
Nick Powell, best known for his work in ‘Gladiator’, spoke about the training he gave to Janhvi Kapoor for her role in ‘Uljhan’. He highlighted the challenges and the actress’ dedication towards her work.
Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming spy thriller ‘Uljhan’ features stunt sequences choreographed by Hollywood action director Nick Powell. He is known for working in Hollywood films like ‘Bourne Identity’, ‘Gladiator’, ‘The Last Samurai’ and others. Apart from Janhvi, the film also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Tailang and Meiyang Chang in pivotal roles.
Nick Powell, stunt director of ‘Uljhan’, talked about training Janhvi Kapoor for the action scenes in the film. He said, “Janhvi is very feminine and getting her to do action scenes and trying to make her look like someone who is punching people, hurting them, of course because she is scared and doesn’t intentionally intend to hurt them, was difficult.”
Talking about her action sequences in ‘Uljhan’ and working with Powell, Janhvi said, “People often misunderstand the role of IFS officers, they think it is similar to other posts where tough combat training is required. IFS officer training is more focused on diplomacy, maintaining international relations and strategic thinking using words. Through Uljhan, I got an insight into the skills required to be an IFS officer. For my character Suhana in Uljhan, we retained this authenticity. While I did not undergo combat training, Nick Powell ensured that the action training required was more in-the-zone and authentic to an IFS.”

For those who don’t know, the preview screening of ‘Uljhan’ was made available at ticketing outlets on July 27. It was sold out within 30 minutes. Due to the demand, the makers have decided to add screenings for fans in three additional cities, details of which will be announced soon.
Expressing her excitement about this, Janhvi Kapoor said, “I am extremely happy to share that we have arranged special pre-release screenings for Ulj for fans across multiple cities. This will be my first film to have exclusive previews for fans ahead of its release across so many cities. What is even more exciting and overwhelming is that the shows have got booked so quickly. The excitement has been incredible, and I hope these previews make the wait a little sweeter!”
Written by Parveez Sheikh and Sudhanshu Saria and with dialogues penned by Atika Chauhan, ‘Uljhan’ has garnered a lot of buzz with its trailer itself. The film also stars talented actors like Adil Hussain, Jitendra Joshi and Rajendra Gupta. Produced by Junglee Pictures, ‘Uljhan’ is set to release in theatres on August 2, 2024.
