Flooding remains likely, expert says Florida’s worst storm is over
Additional rain could lead to flooding in various parts of Florida. However, experts said on Friday that the continuous storms that brought up to 20 inches of rain to the southern part of Florida now appear to be over.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday declared a state of emergency after heavy rains lashed several parts of the state. The state of emergency was declared for Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade and Sarasota.

Subsequently, the mayors of Miami-Dade, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale also declared states of emergency, resulting in the closure of public schools, courts, and even Dania Beach City Hall.
Railroads in and around Miami were closed, while several southern Florida cities were flooded after more than 20 inches of rain fell.

While northern Miami recorded the most rainfall at more than 500 mm, a storm that hit Sarasota on Tuesday evening dropped about 100 mm of rain in just one hour, a record for that area, according to CBS News senior meteorologist David Parkinson.
