Flipkart has abolished its hybrid work model and now all employees need to work with office five days a week. This step comes as part of a change in internal policy, which ended that flexibility since the onset of the Kovid -19 epidemic in 2020.

While the e-commerce company was gradually returning remote work, the latest mandate makes full-time office appearance mandatory in departments and roles. So far, the employees were reporting to the office three days a week.

According to a report by Moneycontrol, the need for strict presence for senior officials, including senior directors and vice -presidents, was initially presented. However, the company has now extended the rule to cover the entire workforce, except for a few exceptions on the basis of job profiles.

An employee told the publication that Flipkart has now made a five-day attendance compulsory for all regardless of its role or level. He said, employees will still be allowed to allow household days from a limited number of work, which can be benefited based on the nature of their work.

A company spokesperson confirmed development, stating that a large part of Flipkart’s workforce – in the field and operating roles – has always worked from its designated places. He said that the company is gradually withdrawing its corporate staff in the office in the last one year and has seen better engagement and cooperation as a result.

“In Flipkart, our employees are always operated from their respective places of our work, especially in the region’s roles, especially in the area roles. By returning to the office. By returning to the office, we aim to promote a strong sense of the community for new works and the community, and focus a shared focus on our normal goals,” said Spoccession said.

Flipkart is not the only tech company to shift gear on remote work. Its nearest rival Amazon announced a similar policy last year, in which corporate staff needed to return to office five days in the week starting from January 2025. CEO Andy Jassi then emphasized the value of face-to-face interaction in driving innovation and productivity.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) CEO Matt German (AWS) told Reuters, “If there are people who do not work well in that environment and do not want, then it’s fine – other companies nearby.” He clarified that he did not mean negative, but he believes that Amazon’s best work comes with in-tradition cooperation. “When we want to innovate on really interesting products, I have not seen us the ability to do so when we are not in the person,” he said.
