Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has criticized Todd Phillips’ direction of the 2019 film Joker, and suggested that the director’s approach was too similar to the infamous DC villain.
Tarantino said, “Todd Phillips is the Joker. Joker directed the film. The whole concept, even him spending the studio money – he’s spending it like the Joker would spend it, right?”
The Pulp Fiction director continued, “He’s telling movie audiences to f*** you. He’s calling Hollywood to f*** you. He’s calling anyone who owns any stock in DC and Warner Bros. F*** you. Todd Phillips is a joker.”

While *The Godfather* director Francis Ford Coppola praised the film, Taxi Driver writer Paul Schrader dismissed it as “undesirable”, leading to polarized reactions.
