"Fell asleep during his own test": Hillary Clinton mocks Donald Trump

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Monday launched a scathing attack on former US President Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, saying Democrats are now “making him run” while praising Kamala Harris’ leadership.

Hillary Clinton took the main stage and praised Harris’ leadership. “Kamala cares, cares about children and families, cares about America. Donald only cares about himself,” Ms Clinton said.

“On her first day in court, Kamala said five words that still guide her today: ‘Kamala Harris, for the people.’ That’s something Donald Trump will never understand. So it’s no surprise that he’s lying about Kamala’s record. He’s mocking her name and her laugh – it sounds familiar. But now he’s running,” Ms Clinton said.

When former Secretary of State Clinton began describing Donald Trump’s legal troubles, the convention crowd began chanting “Put him in jail!”

He said, “Donald Trump fell asleep during his own trial and when he woke up he made his own kind of history – the first man to run for president with 34 felony convictions!” Democrats then began chanting “Lock her in jail!”, reminiscent of chants by Trump fans about Clinton during their face-off in 2016.

“So no matter what the polls say, we can’t give up. We can’t get caught up in crazy conspiracy theories. We have to fight for the truth. We have to fight for Kamala, because she will fight for us,” he said.

“Together, we put many cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling,” Hillary Clinton said in her DNC speech.

“On the other side of that glass ceiling is Kamala Harris raising her hand and taking the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States.”

“Together, we’ve put many cracks in the highest and hardest glass ceiling,” Ms. Clinton said. “And tonight, we’re that much closer to shattering it forever.”

He also urged his party not to give up on the goal of breaking America’s last glass ceiling: electing a woman to the presidency. He hopes Kamala Harris will do what he couldn’t – become the first female president.

“The future is here!” Ms Clinton said. “I wish my mother and Kamala’s mother could have seen it. They would have said: ‘Keep moving forward’.”

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) began in Chicago on Monday.

Former US President Barack Obama will deliver a speech on Tuesday with the theme being “A Bold Vision for the Future.”

Former President Bill Clinton and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi of California will address the conference on Wednesday on the theme “The Struggle for Freedom,” according to a source familiar with the schedule.

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are also expected to speak this week, DNC officials said.

Kamala Harris’ running mate Mike Waltz will take the stage to officially accept the vice presidential nomination on Wednesday. Harris will formally accept the presidential nomination during her speech on Thursday, a night dedicated to the theme “For the Future.”
