What does this AI device do?

The tech expert shared a video explaining how the device works. When a user receives a text from their boss on WhatsApp, the AI device’s screen instantly summarizes the message into 5 lines. For multiple lessons, you can scroll through the summaries on the small OLED screen with the touchpad on the device. Not only do you get a summary of the message, but the AI automatically informs you about the tone of the text – whether your boss is happy or in a bad mood, etc.

The entire process happens wirelessly, and it doesn’t trigger a read receipt on WhatsApp; This way, according to the user, your boss won’t know that you even opened the message.

But how does it work?

This device combines a software backend with low-cost hardware. The backend of the device is built on Node.js, which uses the Baileys library to listen to incoming WhatsApp messages. Messages are captured via a simple HTTP server before being processed by the Grok Large Language Model (LLM) API to generate concise summaries and analyze tone.

Once processed, the summarized message and its detected tone are sent to the NodeMCU microcontroller, which displays the output on a small OLED screen. A touch sensor allows the user to easily refresh or scroll through messages. The device is powered by a battery repurposed from an old selfie stick.

you can’t buy one

Well, if this device gets you excited that you can eliminate the stress of watching long texts from your boss, then we have some unfortunate news for you. This AI device was the user’s “side project”, and they have no plans to make it commercially available.

Rather, he made it just for fun. “This isn’t a commercial product or anything – just a practical, slightly fun solution to avoiding long boss messages without having to open WhatsApp every time,” the person wrote on Reddit. This device shows how creative Indians can be when it comes to finding innovative solutions to everyday problems.
