Not everyone is convinced that every employee needs to be trained in AI. While companies like Microsoft are allegedly planning to include AI use in performance reviews and rolling out an internal AI playbook to guide Google adoption, the Chief Technology Officer of EY has taken a lot of different for the US Counseling Division. In an interview with Commercial insiderThe executive said that it is “silly” to expect the entire workforce in AI.
The CTO, whose job is to help large outfits to integrate AI more meaningfully, believes that the real focus should be clever, easy-to-use systems, not every employee expects to become an AI expert. “They just know that they have a screen and an application, they do not need to know how the technology works,” he said.
This approach flipped the current story. Instead of asking workers to change how they work, EY is helping companies to create AI tools that work in the background, equipment that adjusts existing workflows and roles. An example CTO shared the cruise ship staff using AI to predict guest behavior. Depending on weather, guest profiles and historical data, the AI movement can estimate the demand for product, and even suggest transferring employees between places to manage or increase sales. He said, “AI will turn around and list and prepare that process automatically,” he explained.
The human incharge then simply approves the plan or makes Twiks using a visual interface. Such AI-human cooperation may make AI a less scare and feel more like a accessory than a danger.
What is happening elsewhere is different from what is happening elsewhere. According to internal reports, Microsoft is noted the ways to evaluate how employees are using AI tools as part of their performance metrics. This naturally pressures employees to quickly take AI skills. At the same time, Google has created an internal AI playbook for the purpose of adoption of AI in teams, although the responsibility still falls on workers to adjust.
EY’s approach changes the responsibility that is more on technology. The CTO said, “You are not only giving them techniques, which is A-Sambha, you are allowing them to reconsider how they do their work.”
At a time when business is struggling to balance propaganda and practical use, it seems like a more ground strategy. Everyone does not need to know the Nut and Bolt of AI – sometimes the best technology works silently in the background, helping people to do what they already do, only better.
