Explained: How a jet turned upside down on the Toronto runway and no one died

Investigators are investigating the causes of an unusual aircraft accident at Canadian’s largest airport on Monday when a regional jet turned upside down during the air season, which led to 21 out of 80 people to the hospital.

The video shows the Delta Air Lines plane Bailey up and recalling their right -wing wing at Piercen Airport in Toronto, and in an accident in which no one was fatal, widely broadcast on social media.

Canada’s Transport Safety Board said on Tuesday that parts of the aircraft-a Bombardier-made CRJ900-separated after the effect and the torso came to rest a little rest from the right side of the runway, inverted, facing the other direction.

TSB said that it is very early to know what happened and why it happened. Here we know about this accident and similar accidents.

How is an aircraft upside down?

US Aviation Safety Expert Anthony Brickhouse stated that the aircraft are usually designed to land on two main landing gear, and then nose gear. While the cause of the accident is not clear, the type of impact on the runway damaged the landing gear, causing the aircraft to become unbalanced.

The Brichouse said that the aircraft indicating in the opposite direction talks about the amount of force and speed which was motivated to change the direction.

“All forces and everything is going on, if he is not to support the wing aircraft, it’s going to end,” said Brickhouse. “This is not something we see regularly, but when the structures fail, they cannot do their work and the aircraft is going to react to various forces.”

How did everyone live?

Passengers say they were hanging upside down on their seats after the accident.

“All passengers were wearing security belts,” Mitchell Fox, director of the Asia Pacific Center for Eviation Safety, was prevented from stopping more serious injuries. “

Airplane seats are designed to withstand a normal bridge of gravity in an accident, or 16 grams of force, while the wings and torso are designed to handle 3-5 grams.

Raj Ladani, a program manager of aerospace engineering at RMIT University, Australia, said, “It is more important to catch seats in an impact accident, which gives passengers the best chance to survive.”

Good withdrawal is the key to avoiding air accidents, as seen last year when all 379 people survived a burning aircraft of Japan Airlines after a runway collision.

Regarding the delta accident, Fox said, “The crew did a remarkable job of evacuating all passengers rapidly.”

What has happened before?

While rare, landing cases have been reported on landing, including three accidents involving McDonal Douglas’ MD -11 model.

In 2009, a Fedex Freater killed both the pilots after landing on the runway on the runway at Narita Airport in Tokyo. The leftist wing was demolished and separated from the torso -attached point and the airplane caught fire.

In 1999, a China Airlines flight reversed in Hong Kong descending during a typhoon. The aircraft barely touched, flipped and caught fire, with three out of 315 occupations.

In 1997, another Fedex Freater flipped on Newark in the United States, with no fatal.

Brichouse said that it is very early to draw any of these earlier cases, especially MD -11 is a three -engine aircraft and CRJ900 has two engines that have moved backward Produces mobility.

How will the investigation proceed?

Unlike other investigations, in which parts of the aircraft have disappeared, and are largely fatal, investigators will all be able to interview 76 passengers and four crews.

Investigators have access to the torso and wing, which are on the runway, and the black box – flight data and cockpit voice recorders – have been sent for analysis.

“This is going to be a textbook check,” said Brickhouse. “Some accidents, a lot of pieces of puzzle are missing. But right now, all the puzzle pieces are there. It is just you drinking them back to this point.”
