Veteran actor Kamal Haasan was recently seen on Pinkvilla Masterclass as his next film Indian 2 moves towards its worldwide release on July 12, 2024. In an exclusive conversation with the actor, he was asked about the Lokesh Cinematic Universe from Vikram to Leo.
In response, the actor said, “The Vikram you saw was realised after 37…38 years. This was the story that Sujatha and I created for Vikram.”
He further added, “The audience was ready at that time, believe me, we are the audience, we know. However, the industry was not ready, the director of the film said where are we sending the film, we are not sending it to Cannes. We should show it to our people. This story is very complex and the protagonist does not appear for almost 4-5 reels.”
Kamal Haasan talks about Lokesh Cinematic Universe and his film Vikram
Kamal Haasan added, “When Mr. Lokesh Kanagaraj came to me with a very good story, my confidence in him grew further. Not because it was very satisfying to my ego, I narrated to him the story I had made for Vikram and he loved the story. He said let’s make it and forget the story I told you and call it Vikram.”
He further added, “After that story, all the decisions were taken at that table. This is how filmmakers should make a film. I am always amazed to see Spielberg read the script of an upcoming film, sit under the camera or read a novel that is worth making into a film. As far as he is concerned, the current film is already made in his mind, he is relaxed and thinking about the next film.”
He concluded, “A director should be that good and that’s what I saw in Lokesh when he made this decision. When you decide that this film is good, you have nothing to lose except the ticket money, a director should be that carefree. If he starts calculating everything, he will make a film as boring as the next one and it will not be pathbreaking because he is too scared to move forward.”
