The government of Ram Gopal Varma starring Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan is one of their most acclaimed films. However, in a special chat with Pinkvilla, the filmmaker revealed that neither Amitabh nor Abhishek was his first choice. Initially under the title Nayak, he conceived Sanjay Dutt and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles.
Ram Gopal Varma recalled, “When Sanjay Dutt was arrested in the 1993 blast case, I was working on a film called Nayak. Meanwhile, he was arrested. He was arrested. Made an action-comedy, which came out to be a super hit.

He further revealed, “Was it not successful, I wouldn’t have made it. But ever since it was, I did. Finally, the hero was sheltered, and the title was removed. It was a cute title. , But the project never became physical.
Asked if he had originally planned to make a film with Sanjay Dutt, he replied, “Yes, Sanjay was going to play Abhishek as Abhishek, and Naseeruddin Shah was to play the role of Amitabh. It was not done, if I had created a hero, I would have never formed a government, regardless of its performance.
Government (2005) is a political crime thriller directed by Ram Gopal Varma, inspired by The Godfather. Stating Amitabh Bachchan as a powerful and morally complex leader Subhash Nagre, the film investigated the topics of Shakti, loyalty and betrayal.
Abhishek Bachchan plays his son Shankar, who eventually handles his father’s empire.
