Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh and most recently Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 have received immense love from cinema lovers. Despite this, the films have also faced significant criticism, with a section of society pointing out the toxic patriarchy and misogyny in the film. Recently, Rajesh Khattar spoke to us and defended his cinematic portrayal.
Expressing his views on the important decision, Rajesh Khattar said, “This is an age-old debate, it is not today’s debate. And I will not say much on it because a lot is already being said on the subject What I mean to say is, frankly, as a moviegoer, if I can respond, I would say let it be entertainment.”
“I mean, let it be there. And everyone has the right to choose what they want to see and what they don’t want to see. And putting this heavy responsibility on cinema, whether cinema will change society or society will It will impact in a negative way, it is better not to put such heavy responsibilities on cinema,” he added.
Khattar emphasized that things happening in the real world are ‘beyond the imagination of any writer’. According to him, people are furthering their “self-interest” by raising these issues and not doing anything “effectively” about it. The Don actor commented that “effectively” things start from home and change will come when it is seen how his family members, how the son behaves and how the daughters behave.
Addressing Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh, Khattar said, “I think the truth of the matter is that it went over Rs 300 crore and it was one of Shahid’s biggest hits. So all this Says.” He illustrated his point by comparing people who mentioned misogyny, chauvinism and male-female relationships in a survey which showed that “out of the entire 100% of the audience, 60% were women who went to see the film.”
“Now all these so-called people who have become aware of the fact that the entire premise of the story is misogynistic, and they were trying to protect women and their interests, I think they should go and talk to those women Who went to see the film once, twice, thrice, four times,” he said.
He further talked about Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and said that the makers have never claimed that it is an ideal character. He admitted that there is a deviation in the character, and that it is a dysfunctional family. Khattar questioned whether one does not even have the right to tell the story of a dysfunctional family which is commonly prevalent in metro cities.
“So what’s happening in real life, you know, when you’re trying to portray that on the screen, there are a thousand questions and if something happens all of a sudden, whatever happened on the screen is random. manner, by the thousands, so that’s blown out of proportion,” he said.
Talking about Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, Khattar commented, “It’s an entertainment thing. People are sitting in the theatre, they are being entertained, and they are just forgetting about it. Pushpa is a great entertainer. It is so gorgeously shot, so beautifully acted, so well directed, and it is what you call commercial cinema and it is shown through numbers. has been, you Sit down, criticize it, analyze it.”
During the conversation, he also praised Shahid Kapoor’s art and mentioned how he has “evolved tremendously” over the years. He added that Kapoor is a “skilled actor” and a “big star” because of his acting versatility, ranging from working in historical period dramas to comedy films.
