The internet is excited with the selection of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s film Missing Ladies for Oscars 2025. Meanwhile, Pratibha Ranta, who played one of the lead roles in the film alongside Nitanshi Goyal and Sparsh Srivastava, expressed her happiness over this remarkable achievement.
Pratibha Ranta reacts to the selection of Missing Ladies in 97 in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvillath Academy Award in the Best Foreign Film category. The actress said, “It feels surreal that a meaningful film like Missing Ladies will represent India at the Academy Awards. As actors, we always dream of being a part of something that leaves a lasting impact, and to be a part of a film that is receiving international recognition is beyond even my wildest dreams.”
She further added, “What makes this moment even more significant is that the film celebrates the strength of women, set against the backdrop of rural India, yet it speaks of experiences that transcend boundaries. I hope this opens more doors for our country’s stories to be told and celebrated globally.”
The 13-member committee unanimously selected the Kiran Rao-directed film as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the prestigious festival.
The film has surpassed 29 films, including Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Malayalam National Award winner Aattam, Cannes winner All We Imagine As Light, Tamil film Maharaja, Telugu titles Kalki 2898 AD and Hanu-Man. Apart from this, Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and Yami Gautam’s Article 370 are also included.
Meanwhile, Kiran Rao too shared a special note on her Instagram, in which she expressed her happiness over the development. She wrote, “I am extremely honoured and extremely happy that our film Missing Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of my entire team, whose dedication and passion brought this story to life.”
An entertaining comedy about the misadventures of two young brides who get separated on the same train, a mix of mistaken identities and hilarious humor. Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film is currently streaming on Netflix.
