Exclusive: Cynthia Addai-Robinson discusses Tar-Miriel’s character arc in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power S2; ‘in for a few surprises’

Date:

The highly anticipated second season of Amazon Prime’s hit series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is about to arrive. The series, which focuses on the Second Age of Middle-earth: the creation of the Rings of Power, has been well received since its first season, earning an impressive review score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. But what can fans expect from Season 2?

In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who plays Tar-Míriel, daughter of King Tar-Palantir and heir (now queen) of Númenor, spoke about her character in the upcoming season.

“She definitely starts from a place of loss,” Addai-Robinson revealed. Following the events of the first season, Tar-Míriel lost a major battle and with it her father, The King. According to the actress, her character’s leadership is already being questioned by the Numenóreans in the wake of the tragic events.

The Texas Rising actress added, “She’s lost her father, the king. She’s lost her sight. She’s lost a great battle and in turn has lost many of her fellow Numenoreans.” So by the time she gets back to her kingdom, people are “sick of her.”

She added, “There’s uncertainty about her leadership, even if it’s her rightful place.” With opportunists lurking around her, Tar-Miriel must take advantage of this opportunity and take charge of whatever is happening. Addai-Robinson wants viewers to support her “because she’s definitely going to be tested and hopefully she’ll be victorious in the end.”

He also said that this season will delve deeper into the characters that were “introduced” in the first season. Fans will go on a journey with these characters and get invested in their fates. “They will get to see some surprises,” he said.

This epic series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and tells the story of the origin of the Power Rings and the fall of the Empire of Numenor.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will release on August 29.
