Exclusive: Anupam Kher lauds Aditya Dhar’s ‘remarkable work’, Ranveer Singh’s ‘realistic acting’ in Dhurandhar’s success

Anupam Kher, who recently directed Tanvi: The Great, sat down for an in-depth conversation exclusively with Pinkvilla. During the conversation, the actor talked about his life, ups and downs, career choices and more. He also shared his thoughts on how Dhurandhar became a sensation among the audience.

Sharing his opinion on the historic success of Dhurandhar, Kher boasted about Aditya Dhar’s ‘honesty’ in telling a story that he believed in. He said, “He (Aditya Dhar) was trying to tell a story that he truly believed in. Aditya Dhar has done a remarkable job. It’s one of the best films, not because it showed blood or violence in a different way. (Not because it showed blood and violence in a different way.) But it was a great film. Indian agents going into enemy territory and the truth about that whole thing.”

The National Award winning actor further elaborated and talked about the star cast of Dhurandhar. He highlighted that it was Ranveer Singh’s performance that made the film believable and realistic. Anupam Kher said, “A lot of credit goes to Akshay (Akshay Khanna) of course, R. Madhavan, all the people who did our work, my friend Rakesh Bedi, Arjun Rampal, that young girl, Sara Arjun, whoever, but I think a lot of credit goes to Ranveer Singh for not breaking the mold of the man standing behind. Talking about Ranveer Singh, he said, “It was his performance which made the film real. He is a superstar, he could have flinched and overreacted like this, but he remained like this (calm and composed) and it made the other characters look better.”

Talking about Aditya Dhar’s conviction, Kher concluded, “Sure, the songs were there, every single thing was brilliant but it was Aditya Dhar’s conviction that made this film.”

For those unaware, Dhurandhar made around Rs. With its total gross of ₹788 crore at the Indian box office, it became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in the domestic market. Its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge is now playing in theatres.
