Amit Sadh, known for his performances in ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Sultan’ and other films, while talking to India Today.in, revealed how he was ‘angry’ and ‘sad’ with the industry at one point of time. He also shared his views on cancel culture. Sadh recently launched his own travel and biking show ‘Motorcycles Saved My Life’ on YouTube.

“We cannot allow anyone to mistreat us.”

In a conversation with India Today.in, Amit Sadh spoke about what he feels about the constantly changing situation in the film industry. He also spoke about the aggressive trolling that some actors face. He said, “Whatever is happening is sad. We are all one unit and someone should do something to protect each other. We have become very scared now. If something wrong is happening to someone, I feel responsible to take a stand because if something happens to me; suppose, I don’t support someone, then later, no one will be there for me.”

He also added, “I strongly believe that we cannot allow anyone to misbehave with us. We need to stand up for each other and show support, without worrying about who is getting offended or upset. If a newcomer is doing his first show or film, or even if it is his fifth project and he is not acting well or not doing a good job, it is a fair process to criticise his work.”

He further added, “I understand that but the entire media going after one person and even a few actors is unacceptable. Even I have been a part of films where my co-stars have given me a hard time but I would never go after them. I feel they are like my family at that point and I want to keep them safe. I will not give any information to the media. I am upfront in saying these things and if because of this whatever films I am getting stop coming to me, it is okay. I still have money to buy petrol and I will go ride my bike. I think there should be a dignified ecosystem where there is dignity and some kind of acceptance.”

‘Film promotion is not a fashion parade’

Talking about film promotions and his look in recent times, Amit said, “When we go for promotions, I find it very stupid because actors are fighting for clothes and who will style them and pay those stylists Rs 80,000. The producers are anyway spending a lot of money and then there are all these other expenses. It is not a fashion parade. Everyone has to think and act in a certain way. Film promotions were never about spending lakhs of rupees on clothes, hair and makeup. It was never a fashion parade.”

He said, “I am not saying dress badly or anything like that. All I am saying is that film promotions are about excitement and enthusiasm for the film and not wasting money by going for an interview with ten people. I am sorry that I have very harsh views on it because we have made it a joke. Promotions have now become style icon awards. I love everyone and I don’t want to be harsh but being a part of this industry I can express my views and put my point across without any malice, malice or anger.”

‘The industry should not fire actors’

Amit Sadh said, “I think some corrections and some ideas can go a long way. Even if the actor is doing something wrong or going in the wrong direction, the industry should not cancel them. Instead, tell them where I am going wrong, without the industry cancelling anyone so that they can work on themselves and become better. After spending twenty years in the industry, I want to talk about cinema, good films and how we can take Indian cinema to the world, so we all need to introspect about why we are making films at all.”

‘I just feel sad about this industry’

Recalling his early days as an actor, Amit said, “There was a time when I used to get really angry. Now, when I look back, I think maybe I was stupid because no one is here to serve you things on a platter. Sometimes, it is important to fight hard and show the industry that you are here to stay. When it comes to criticism, I pay too much attention to it. I just feel hurt by the industry. I am not victimising myself, but I feel hurt in some way. I am grateful for not being criticised for my acting. I have always got great opportunities.”

He also added, “At the end of the day, we are all human beings and go through our own struggles. So, I started focusing on the positives and what I have. Automatically, I started reflecting on why I am unhappy, while I am grateful for everything I have and understand that life goes on.”

He said, “At the very beginning of my career, I realised that one should move ahead with each passing day. I have done even small roles with a lot of passion and have always believed that if someone offers me a small role of 10-15 minutes, I will accept it with confidence and act brilliantly without seeming arrogant.”

Amit Sadh was last seen in ‘Sukhhi’.
