In 2O12, Shakun Batra made his directorial debut with Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor, and followed it with Kapoor & Sons starring Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan. Both the films received appreciation from the audience and later proved to be success stories at the box office. After this he directed Deepika PadukoneSiddhant Chaturvedi, and Ananya Panday in Gehriyaan, which premiered on the digital medium. After partnering with Dharma Productions on 3 films, Shakun Batra has locked his next directorial venture with Junglee Pictures.
According to sources close to the development, Shakun Batra’s next film will be produced by Junglee Pictures and is expected to go on floors in 2025. “When Shakun heard about the idea, he immediately said yes to coming on board to develop and direct. the film. Shakun and Junglee Pictures have worked together on the script, as the former has added his flavor to it along with writers Suprotim Sen Gupta and Kunal Aneja. This is an exciting and new place for Shakun,” revealed a source close to the development.
The source further said that the script is a different genre of comedy, which introduces the cinema-going audience to a new world. “They are in the final stages of revising the script before they start meeting the actors,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Shakun is also co-producing a feature film Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, which is currently in the scripting stage. The source concluded, “Even so, this is an extremely exciting project, developed by Shakun and Ayesha Devitre, and the script is expected to be locked in a fortnight, after which it will move on to the casting stage.”
