Even at the age of 69, Kamal Haasan is pushing his boundaries for cinema.

Kamal Haasan is called Ulaganayagan (actor of the world) because even at the age of 69, he manages to grab everyone’s attention with his choice of films. On June 10, the trailer of Nag Ashwin’s much-awaited film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ was released amid huge expectations. The trailer of this film, which is said to be the most expensive Indian film ever made, had only one shot of Kamal Haasan in which he is doing a cameo.

And that was it!

The trailer of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ showed Kamal Haasan in a new avatar and fans got excited. Though his fans, who have been following his filmography for years, compared it to his look in ‘Dasavathaaram’ (in which the actor played 10 roles), his look got everyone excited.

But, why has Kamal Haasan’s presence in ‘Kalki 2898’ made everyone so excited?

This actor, who started his career at the age of five, has seen it all. It would not be wrong to say that there is hardly any character that he has not played. But, Kamal Haasan’s hunger is still not going to end. An example of this is his upcoming films.

Kamal Haasan is all set for the release of director Shankar’s ‘Indian 2’, which will hit the theatres on July 12. The film is a sequel to the 1996 film of the same name. The 1996 film too had Kamal Haasan playing two roles – the young and corrupt Chandru and the freedom fighter-turned-vigilante Senapathi. Almost two decades later, Kamal Haasan is back as the aged vigilante Senapathi who fights against corruption.

Here’s a promo:

‘Indian’ was iconic in many ways and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Senapathi’ was one of them. It takes guts to relive the same character after 20 years. They say, ‘classics should never be touched’. For Kamal Haasan it can go both ways, but he is willing to take the risk.

After delivering a Rs 400 crore hit with ‘Vikram’ in 2022, Kamal Haasan does not have any releases lined up yet. However, he has decided to work with director Mani Ratnam once again after almost 35 years. Together, they are working on the film ‘Thug Life’, based on professional robbers and killers in India.

The announcement video of ‘Thug Life’ was mesmerizing in all respects. Firstly, it brought back the ‘Nayakan’ duo – Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan. Secondly, Kamal Haasan’s look and his dialogue delivery caught everyone’s attention. Thirdly, it was technically strong. In fact, ‘Thug Life’ became one of the most anticipated films in Tamil cinema, and it was able to create that impact with just an announcement video.

Though Kamal Haasan has a cameo role in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, it is still a role that could change the direction of the film. He promises the beginning of a ‘new era’.

Even after spending six decades in cinema, Kamal Haasan continues to experiment and touch new heights not just for himself but for cinema as a whole.
