Eva Green joins The Wednesday Season 3 as Aunt Ophelia

Eva Green has officially joined ‘Wednesday’ Season 3 as Aunt Ophelia, ending months of fan speculation following the Season 2 cliffhanger reveal of the mysterious character. The new season will explore Ophelia’s dark past, her psychic powers, and her sinister message: “Wednesday must die.”

‘Wednesday’ producers have finally ended months of fan speculation by revealing who will play Wednesday Addams’ mysterious Aunt Ophelia. Netflix confirms casting on X, officially announcing that Eva Green will be joining ‘Wednesday’ Season 3.

Netflix wrote, “Aunt Ophelia has arrived. A heartbreaking welcome to Eva Green in The Wednesday Season 3.”

This confirmation comes after Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger earlier this year. The finale showed Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega) preparing to set out on a road trip with Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) to find her best friend Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), who had turned into a werewolf. But before she left, Wednesday had a vision of her Aunt Ophelia – revealing that her troubled relative, long thought missing, was actually alive.

The new season builds on the growing mythology surrounding the Addams Family. Ophelia, who like her niece Wednesday was a crow, had her mental abilities pushed “to the limit – and beyond”. She and Morticia’s mother Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley) were admitted to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital before escaping. It is believed that her trail went cold until Wednesday found her aunt’s journal at the end of Season 2 and experienced a haunting vision of a woman with long blonde hair and a flower crown.

Moments later in the episode, Hester is seen entering the basement of her mansion, where Ophelia is locked inside a closet. Still shown only from behind, she is wearing a red dress and writing “Wednesday must die” with her own blood on the wall.

The character has a long history in the Addams universe. In the 1960s ‘Addams Family’ series, Caroline Jones played both Morticia and Ophelia, and wore a blonde wig for the latter.

The casting of Eva Green is the first major addition to ‘Wednesday’ Season 3, which was greenlit earlier this summer ahead of the Season 2 premiere. Her inclusion also puts to rest fans’ theories that Lady Gaga’s Rosalyn Rotwood may secretly be Ophelia Frump.

‘Wednesday’ remains one of Netflix’s biggest global hits. Season 1 became the platform’s No. 1 global TV series, and its cast, including Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joey Sunday, Musa Mustafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Victor Dorobantu, Luis Guzman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen, made it a cultural phenomenon.

Season 3 is expected to continue exploring Wednesday Addams’ supernatural journey at Nevermore Academy, with new mysteries, new characters and now, a long-lost aunt brought to life by Eva Green.
