Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra did not like his daughters Esha and Ahana Deol to wear western clothes and preferred to wear traditional salwar-kameez. In a throwback interview, Hema Malini told that whenever Isha and Ahana’s father used to come to Mumbai to meet them, she used to wear salwar-kameez.

“Whenever he comes to Bombay (now Mumbai), he makes sure to meet his children and talk to them about their education. When it comes to outfits, she is very particular,” Hema had shared during a conversation with Simi Grewal.

Clarifying that Dharmendra has no objection to her wearing jeans, Hema Malini shared, “He doesn’t mind jeans and other things, but he likes salwar-kameez. I tell them, if your dad likes it, wear it for him.” At the time of the interview, Isha and Ahana were 17 and 14 years old respectively.

Isha was accompanied by her mother during the interview and shared her thoughts about her father. When 17-year-old Isha was asked about her interest in becoming an actor, she said, “I am interested, but it all depends on what my father says about it.”

That’s when Hema revealed Dharmendra’s reservations about allowing his daughters to work in the film industry. “I once talked to him about our daughters getting into movies, but he said, ‘No way.’ Right from his birth, he was very particular about it. He said, ‘It’s okay for them to learn dance and other things, but they can’t enter films,” Hema said.

“He is very possessive about us,” Isha said. He tells us, ‘Girls, you have to sit at home. We too are not allowed to go out much, but mom is there so we do sports etc. Even if we have to go out for interstate sports events, they have objections. He is very concerned and protective. He doesn’t like us wearing sleeveless tops or short pants, so whenever he comes home we wear pants or salwar kameez.”

In another interview with hotterflyIsha had also shared that Dharmendra wanted her to get married at the age of 18.

But Isha managed to connect with films. She made her Bollywood debut with the 2002 film Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe and later starred in films such as Dhoom, Yuva, Kaal and Cash. He was last seen in the short film Ek Dua.
