It has been less than a week since Charlie Angus, a member of Parliament, a petition has been sponsored at the House of Commons to cancel the Canadian citizenship of Elon Musk and has already been signed by more than 315,000 Canadians. The petition asks the Prime Minister to cancel Musk’s citizenship as he is “engaged in activities against Canada’s national interest.” The petition was started by writer Qualia Reid at Nanymo, British Columbia.
The petition stated that Musk has now become a member of a foreign government who is trying to erase Canadian sovereignty and should address these efforts to attack Canadian sovereignty. Musk has a Canadian citizenship through her mother, May Musc (Ni Haldman), born in Regina, Suskechewan. Currently, Elon Musk has a dual Canadian-American citizenship.
An interview with CBC News Angus stated that he knows that a petition would not lead to cancellation of its citizenship, but people want to express their anger over Kasturi’s intense democratic works. Angus said Musk has said that Canada is not a real country and is a person of US President Donald Trump’s right hand, who believe that Canada had the right to existence, so Musk can pose a direct threat to Canada’s sovereignty. Angus referred to a tweet from Elon Musk stating that “Canada is not a real country” as a response to the petition but later took the tweet down.
Canadian citizenship can be canceled only if a person has been cheated, incorrectly presented to him, or deliberately hidden information on an immigration or citizenship application. Stephen Harper’s Orthodox government introduced a bill C -24 in 2015 demanding the dispute of citizenship for terror, treason or espionage. This Liberal Party was a matter of warm debate with the then leader of Justin Trudeau, who was opposing any situation related to citizenship, saying that it devalue it. Trudeau argued that crimes should be dealt with through appropriate laws and punishments instead of stateing citizenship.
In January, NDP MP Angus wrote the election to Canada that an inquiry was demanded in Kasturi -owned, X and how it could be used to manipulate the Canadian federal election. He asked the election body to take out a commitment to Kasturi on algorithm transparency, which would allow the election observers to see if X is interfering in the promotion or repression of political content.
