According to the job listing, the ideal candidate “has a strong product understanding and high craft ability, creates intuitive and delightful user experiences, and is experienced in designing modern, mass-production apps while embodying technical excellence.”
Beyond technical skills, candidates should demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and the ability to “wear many hats and take responsibility for large areas.” This role is open in multiple locations including the UK, New York, Palo Alto and San Francisco.

Successful candidates will undergo a 15-minute phone interview where basic questions will be asked to assess suitability. Those who qualify will proceed to the main process, which consists of two technical rounds:

- Android Hands-on: A practical development exercise that includes starter code and an external API.
The final step is a meet and greet with the broader xAI team.
Candidates who are successful across all stages will not only get the opportunity to work with Elon Musk, but also join the team shaping the next generation of AI-powered experiences.
XAI’s AGI Timeline
Elon Musk isn’t stopping at hiring top Android talent, his ambitions for XAI extend much further. During an all-hands meeting at the company’s San Francisco headquarters, Musk reportedly outlined his revised timeline for achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), the next big leap in AI development.
According to one report, Musk believes that XAI could reach AGI within two years, possibly as early as 2026. It’s an ambitious goal, though not entirely unexpected from a man known for setting bold deadlines. Earlier, Musk had suggested that Grok 5, the next version of the XAI model, expected in early 2026, has about a 10 percent chance of reaching AGI.
However, Musk stressed that achieving such a milestone would require extensive effort behind the scenes, from scaling up infrastructure to refining model alignment and security. He is said to be confident that once xAI crosses that threshold, its systems can surpass human intelligence, making the company one of the most powerful forces in the AI landscape.
