In December 2021, Tesla officially moved its corporate headquarters from Silicon Valley to a large factory in Austin, Texas. The company announced this in a filing with US securities regulators.
The company has relocated from Palo Alto, California to a location called the “Gigafactory” on Harold Green Road near Austin, Texas. Previously, Musk hinted at an imminent move at the company’s annual meeting in October 2021.
In April this year, Reuters reported, citing an internal memo, that Tesla would lay off more than 10% of its global workforce. This came at a time when the company was reportedly grappling with falling sales and an intensifying price war for electric vehicles (EVs).
Elon Musk previously said in a post on X, “About every five years, we need to reorganize and streamline the company for the next phase of growth”.
The company’s number will grow from about 100,000 at the end of 2021 to more than 140,000 at the end of 2023, according to documents filed with U.S. regulators.
