In short

  • Tesla’s optimus robot can learn new tasks by looking at humans
  • This is a major change in the old way of programming robots
  • Musk believes that this method of learning from video is a significant twist

Elon Musk has shared an exciting update about Tesla’s humanoid robot, optimus. A video shared by Tesla shows the optimus robot that they learn new tasks by looking at humans, as we do while watching tutorial videos. For those people why it matters, this is a major change in the old way of programming robots. It brings optimus close to acting like a human trainee. By learning from everyday tasks, the robot can be more useful and can learn new things very fast.

Musk says Tesla wants optimus to study the real -world video, such as on YouTube, and then use what he sees to do similar tasks on his own. The engineering lead in Tesla, Milan Kovak, says this success has already helped the robot take jobs such as vacuuming, sorting items, shaking food, or nonsense out.

This new learning method means that optimus no longer needs detailed programming for every task. Instead, it can copy from human examples and can be told what to do with a simple voice or text command. Musk believes that this optimus can give “task Extensibility”, which means that it can learn almost anything very quickly when it is shown the correct video.

So far, Tesla has shown optimus acting in a small clip – even cleaning and dancing things together. However, the earlier demo suffered criticism, as some people believed that many of these tasks were actually being controlled by humans rather than being done by robots.

Despite suspicion, Musk believes that this method of learning from the video is a significant twist. He called optimus “the biggest product of all time” and even thinks that it can be more valuable than Tesla’s car business in the future. He hopes that the robot will be made extensively, with possible use in Tesla factories by the end of 2025, or perhaps the first if progress continues quickly.

What can it mean what does it mean to move forward? Instead of coding each trick, developers can have a set of instructions bus optimus – whether it is a video of cooking or a guide to fold the cloth – and then just copy it. In theory, the robot can learn just like a person: by viewing, copying and improving.

Nevertheless, many experts suggest that Tesla’s current robots are less efficient with fine hand movements and walk compared to leaders such as Boston Dynamics. While this idea is promising, critics say that before we actually look at the common-purpose robot, which work well in homes or workplaces.
