Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk alleged in an interview with US conservative commentator Jordan Peterson that his estranged transgender daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson was “killed” by a “woke mind virus” after she persuaded him to undergo gender-affirming care procedures.
During the interview, Mr Musk referred to gender-reassignment surgery as “child mutilation and sterilisation”. The world’s richest man claimed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he was persuaded to sign documents for one of his children.
“I was tricked into signing documents for one of my older sons,” Musk said. “This was really when I didn’t understand a lot of what was going on, and we had COVID going on, so there was a lot of confusion and I was told that (my child) might commit suicide.”

Mr Musk, who also owns X (formerly Twitter), accused those involved in promoting gender-affirming care of targeting children “who are well below the age of consent”.
“I was tricked into doing this,” Mr Musk claimed. “I lost my son. They call it ‘deadnaming’ because your son is dead.”
Mr Musk claims the experience has put him on a mission to fight the “woke mind virus”. “I vowed after this to destroy the woke mind virus. And we’re making some progress,” he said.
Mr Musk’s 20-year-old daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson legally changed her name and gender at the age of 18. This legal change took place in a California court on June 22, 2022.
“I no longer live with my biological father or wish to be associated with him in any way,” Ms Wilson said at the time. Ms Wilson’s mother, Justine Wilson, a Canadian author, divorced Mr Musk in 2008.
