Elon Musk calls for scrapping of EVMs ahead of US elections: ‘Hacking is a threat’
Elon Musk advocated the abolition of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He was reacting to voting irregularities highlighted by Robert F Kennedy Jr in a social media post.

Billionaire businessman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk called for the scrapping of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) while reacting to a social media post on voting irregularities in the United States. He said the risk of EVMs being hacked is “still very high”.
Earlier today, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent candidate in the US presidential race, alleged illegalities in the primary election.
He wrote, “According to the Associated Press, hundreds of voting irregularities involving electronic voting machines were discovered in Puerto Rico’s primary election. Fortunately, there was a paper trail, so the problem was identified and the vote counts were corrected. What happens in areas where there is no paper trail?”
Kennedy Jr. said American citizens need to know whether each of their votes was counted and also called for a return to paper ballots to ensure an “honest and fair election.”
Sharing the post, Musk said, “We should eliminate electronic voting machines. The risk of them being hacked by humans or AI, though small, is still too high.”

On June 2, Puerto Rico held primary elections to select the candidates of the New Progressive Party (PNP) and the Popular Democratic Party (PPD). However, both parties reported hundreds of ballots showing incorrect results, with the PNP reporting more than 700 errors and the PPD pointing to nearly 350 discrepancies.
Later, the Election Commission conducted a full vote count by auditing paper receipts from hundreds of vote-counting machines.
The commission also said it was reviewing its contract with the electronic voting company after discrepancies were found.
