Ekta Kapoor’s ALTBalaji Telefilms has issued a clarification after a case was registered against the producer and her mother Shobha Kapoor for showing obscene scenes involving minor girls. The statement said Shobha and Ekta “are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company”.

A complaint was filed against Ekta and Shobha Kapoor for showing obscene scenes involving minor girls in an episode of season 6 of the web series ‘Gandii Baat’. The series aired on Alt Balaji from February to April 2021. However, the controversial episode is no longer streaming on the platform.

It was also claimed in the complaint that great men and saints have been insulted by using cigarette advertisements in this web series, due to which the sentiments of the complainant have been hurt.

Citing the complaint, a statement was issued on Tuesday by Ekta Kapoor’s Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited. “With reference to various media reports regarding the Web Series – ‘Gandii Baat’, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Limited (the ‘Company’) clarifies that it is in full compliance with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act and any reference to engagement It is completely wrong for the company to involve minors,” the statement said.

The statement further said that Shobha and Ekta “are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company”.

“It is further clarified that Mrs. Shobha Kapoor and Ms. Ekta R. Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company and it is managed by separate teams, including its content strategy. The company has been referred to the Judiciary “We have full confidence in and are fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. Since the matter is sub judice, the company is refraining from commenting in detail,” the statement concluded.

If reports are to be believed, according to Mumbai Police, Ekta and Shoba Kapoor will appear for questioning on October 24.
