Dr. Naresh Trehan recommends eliminating these 4 ‘whites’ from your diet
Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman, Medanta Hospital, highlighted the importance of a balanced lifestyle for longevity, advocating moderation in diet and regular exercise for heart health.
Top cardiologist Dr. Naresh Trehan shares important lifestyle tips to maintain longevity. He highlighted the importance of balancing food, exercise and happiness for overall well-being.
According to Dr Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta Hospital, moderate alcohol consumption is fine, but it is important to live a happy, stress-free life for heart health. He also stressed the importance of regular exercise, recommending 4-5 sessions a week, and weighing yourself daily to stay on track.
He urged people to avoid what he called the “four whites” in our diet: sugar, white rice, refined flour, and potatoes. While he clarified that nothing is completely banned, he suggested consuming these food items in limited quantities.
For example, he recommended limiting sugar intake to just one teaspoon per day. Excessive sugar can lead to weight gain and affect heart health.
He also pointed out that when potatoes are consumed in excess or in the wrong form, it can contribute to weight gain. Potatoes have a high glycemic index, which can cause a rapid rise in blood sugar, increasing the risk of heart disease and other health problems.
Additionally, Dr. Trehan cautioned against artificial sweeteners, saying they are not a healthy option. He believes that it is better to give up sugar completely rather than relying on alternatives. “Once you give up sugar, tea, coffee and everything else tastes the same,” he said, advising people to stop buying sugar substitutes and opt for healthier alternatives.
Dr. Trehan advocates moderation, a balanced diet, and regular exercise as the keys to a healthy heart.
