The curiosity of a pet dog proved fatal for a family in America when the family’s pet dog accidentally turned on the stove at night while its owners were sleeping. The family was saved from danger when their home assistant device Apple HomePad sent them an alert informing them of “high heat”. The incident was captured on a camera installed in the kitchen.
The incident took place in Colorado, USA last month at around 4:40 am. The CCTV video shows the dog pawing at the kitchen counter, during which it set the stove on fire.
The camera showed the dog standing on its hind legs and turning on the stove. Within moments, some boxes kept on top of the stove caught fire, setting the kitchen ablaze. In another video, the kitchen caught fire and filled with smoke, triggering the fire alarm.
On Wednesday, June 26th at 4:43 a.m. CSFD was dispatched to the 1600 block of Rushmore Dr. for a report of a possible structure fire at a home. The homeowners told our call takers they had a stove fire in their home that was put out by an appliance. pic.twitter.com/lohlgUvC2q

At this time, the Apple HomePad sent alerts to owners who were awakened by the “high temperature” notification. One of them extinguished the fire before the fire department arrived.
When fire officials arrived, they saw the video recorded in the kitchen and shared it on social media. This video has been viewed more than 13,000 times on X.
The owner was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
“This is a good reminder to always have working smoke alarms inside and outside every sleeping area of the home and on every floor, make sure all flammable materials are away from your stovetop/oven, and know two ways to escape from every room in your home in case of a fire,” the fire department said in a post on X.
X users have criticised the owners’ negligence following the incident and argued that the flammable boxes should not have been placed above the stove. Others have warned that similar incidents involving children could occur.
