Deepika Padukone started Hindi cinema with the 2007 film Om Shanti Om directed by Farah Khan. He co-contemplated with Shah Rukh Khan in the film Romance Fantasy. He talked about the ‘Insider-Outsider’ debate at the Waves 2025 summit.
In 2025, the Waves Summit, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone opened up about the internal formula-boat conversation in the film industry, which shows his journey from Bangalore to become one of the most recognized faces in Indian cinema. Speaking with Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Karan Johar, Deepika addressed the subject with honesty and personal insight.
When the subject of brother -in -law came to light, he admitted that conditions like “Insider” and “outsider” are discussed more today than today. Sharing his experience, he said, “These are the words that we are now discussing … internal formula or outdoor … When I started it was just a new world. I was a seventeen -year -old girl who came from Bangalore.”
Deepika talked about her debut in Kannada film Aishwarya and how her Bollywood journey started unexpectedly. He revealed that Farah Khan showed interest in casting it without operating the audition. “Farah Khan showed me interest in casting a film. I was infection between Bangalore and Mumbai. He did not even audition me. I remember that I was meeting with him once, and he said,” I want you to meet Shahrukh once. ” He was shooting Chak Day in Australia at that time.
He also credited his modeling background to open some doors, but emphasized that it was his hard work and passion that really helped him succeed. “Of course, I was a model earlier. They had seen some of my works. But I never felt that I was trying to make my place in a new industry. I had dedication, passion, determination and hard work. The things that were under my control. The things that I was applied to, applied to what I was emotional.”
Connecting his vision to the debate, Shah Rukh Khan expressed that he did not believe that the insider-outsetor label should lose so much weight. He realized that it was insignificant where a person comes from and what really matters how someone takes out his location in the industry.
Recalling his own story, Shah Rukh mentioned that he never allowed himself to feel like an outsider and always believed that the industry was part of it. He also emphasized that getting stuck in an outsider of being an outsider can lead to a back hold, because the world is indifferent to someone’s background – the one who matters the most is effort and perseverance.
