Bollywood singer-rapper Badshah is considered one of the finest artistes in the industry, who has proved his talent with hit songs like Genda Phool, Garmi and Bad Boy. In a recent interview, the rapper talked about his song Humma Humma from OK Jaanu and revealed that Ustad and OG Humma Humma singer AR Rahman had initially apologized to him for criticizing the remake of his iconic hit.

During a conversation with Radio Nasha, Badshah said, “When I did ‘Humma Humma’, I had to face a lot of criticism. AR Rahman sir was also very unhappy. But at an event, I remember, he called me. And he said, ‘I’m sorry’ It took me time to realize it was a good song, I was just unhappy because…’ There were a few things and that was probably the biggest validation I wasn’t looking for. I got it.’

The singer noted that he had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve with the song, and described this as the best part of the process.

Badshah explained that while he had a clear vision of how he wanted to remix and remake the song to give it his signature “Badshah touch”, it was only later that others began to appreciate his conviction.

Badshah collaborated with Tanishk Bagchi to re-imagine Humma Humma for the 2017 film OK Jaanu, starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. The original track, composed and sung by AR Rahman, was featured in Mani Ratnam’s 1995 film Bombay.

When the new version of Humma Humma was released for OK Jaanu, Rahman publicly expressed his dissatisfaction over the remake. He said that he had given permission to use the song only after repeated requests from the film’s director Shaad Ali.

Apart from Humma Humma, Badshah has also worked on many iconic Bollywood tracks like Tamma Tamma Loge, Kala Chashma and the recent remake of Morni Baga Ma Bole. Apart from this, his original tracks like Jugnu, Gone Girl, Pagal, Mercy, Bachpan Ka Pyaar and many others are huge hits.
