Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a letter to Army chief General Syed Asim Munir, in which the reasons behind the “growing distance” between the army and the public are underlined, PTI president Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Monday, Eri News said.
The letter, according to the PTI leadership, addresses the major national concerns and urges unity between the people and the armed forces.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar said that Imran Khan wrote a letter in his ability as a former Prime Minister and praised the sacrifices made by the Pakistani armed forces.
Quoting Khan, he said, “Pakistan’s army is making great sacrifice. This country and army are ours. We do not want anarchy and it is necessary that the public stand with the army.” He reiterated that the message of PTI founder focused on promoting national unity.
PTI leader Faisal Chaudhary also confirmed the development, saying that Imran Khan had sent a letter to the army chief. He said that the letter emphasizes the sacrifice of Pakistani soldiers and the need to stand behind its armed forces for the nation.
He further revealed that Khan raised six major points, including “fraud elections” and 26th constitutional amendments on 8 February, 2024.
This letter also touches important issues like Al-Qadir Trust Case and Economic concerns. PTI leadership believes that these cases are central for Pakistan’s political and governance scenario, who warns directly with military leadership.
This development follows Imran Khan’s recent correspondence with judicial officials. On 31 January, he sent letters to Pakistan Chief Justice Nyaya Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin Khan, head of the constitutional bench. Sources states that 349-pain documents have significant demands and complaints about major political events.
Letters ask for the formation of a commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26, which have been important in political and legal discussions. Additionally, they highlight concerns over the treatment of PTI workers, raid their homes, arrest and an alleged rift on party members, said Eri News.
The 8 February elections are also referred to, in which Khan expresses concern about the electoral process.
