Diljit Dosanj made a great start in Met Gala in 2025, proudly represented his Punjabi heritage to one of the biggest stages of fashion. Wearing a custom dress by Prabal Gurung, Diljit surprised everyone with an eye inspired by the Maharaja of Patiala. But whatever more attention was attracted, it was that the contingent of his artists could be the crown of the actual Patiala necklace.
The singer’s team once expected the legendary piece of jewelry owned by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh to borrow. Cartier was commissioned in 1928, the necklace weighed 1,000 carats and consisted of 2,900 diamonds. Its price is basically Rs 10 crore, but now its price is around Rs 21,000 crore (USD 2.5 billion). This remains the largest necklace cartier ever.
Diljit’s stylist, Abhilasha Devnani, revealed in an interview with the New York Times that he had reached to borrow the iconic piece. However, he was informed that the necklace was sealed to a museum and could not be lended. With that option from the table, the team turned to the Indian jeweler Golecha, a famous look inspired by the royal collection. It included a Regal Turban brooch and other traditional items.
Despite not wearing the original defeat, Diljit paid a powerful tribute to his roots. He ran a blue carpet in a kurta, tehmat, turban and cape, which had a Gurmukhi script. He also ran a sword, which fulfills the royal-inspired form, which completes the tradition mixed with the theme of this year with the theme.
Talking to The New York Times, Diljit said, “This is what I am doing at this time. It is about taking your identity with pride, isn’t it?” With or without royal jewelry, Diljit has won hearts on the global stage.
Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is held every year in New York to raise funds for the Costume Institute of Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s Gala saw a strong Indian presence, including Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani and designer Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra and Prabal Gurung. Sochelights Natasha Poonwal and Isha Ambani were also seen at the star-staded event.
