Salman Khan is one of the most successful superstars that Hindi cinema will always be proud of. Apart from his amazing filmography, Salman is known for his humanitarian work in B-Town. Remember when he donated his bone marrow to a little girl? Not just in real life, but the superstar also believes in creating medical awareness on-screen. In 2004, Salman worked with Shilpa Shetty in a film called Phir Milenge. Did you know that he charged Rs 1 to play the role of an HIV patient in the film? The superstar accepted the role after everyone in Bollywood refused him.
Producer Shailendra Singh has shared a video of himself on Instagram in which he has revealed that Salman Khan has not charged a hefty amount for playing his role in Phir Milenge. “Salman Khan charged Rs 1 for the film and in the climax, he actually dies…” The producer then praised the Phir Milenge actor for spreading awareness about AIDS among India’s population, especially the youth, through the 2004 film.
“Salman Khan was the biggest youth icon in Bollywood at that time and still is. But imagine convincing Salman Khan to do a film based on the issue of AIDS when he is actually the Rambo, Terminator and Superman of India,” says Singh.
Discussing the story of Phir Milenge, the producer revealed that the lead actor of the film is diagnosed with HIV and eventually dies. Many actors rejected the film and later Salman agreed to be a part of it.
He further added, “The entire Bollywood industry said no. That was the day I called Salman Khan…” Recalling the end of Salman’s character in the film, the producer said that his fans were not happy. However, the superstar and the producers succeeded in spreading the message across the country.
The caption read, “Salman Khan has a big heart…see you again brother.”
Directed by actress-filmmaker Revathi, Phir Milenge featured Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. It was inspired by the Hollywood film Philadelphia (1993). Salman now has Sikandar in his kitty as well.
