Rockstar is one of Imtiaz Ali’s films that made him a star filmmaker in Bollywood. The award-winning film became so popular that after more than a decade, it was re-released in cinemas earlier this year due to popular demand. While Ranbir Kapoor has done a great job as Jordan, not many know that Ali has approached the actor for another film.
While talking to Mid-Day, Imtiaz Ali recalled that he was supposed to make a film called Rockstar. But for some reason, it didn’t happen. Though, talks were on and the story was circulating among people close to him. But years later, he started working on it. Then he met Ranbir Kapoor during a screening. After their brief interaction at the event, the celebs met.
Ali went to meet Kapoor with the script of another film. However, he was so adamant about the script of Rockstar that the actor inquired the filmmaker about it. Not only this, they were so engrossed in the musical play that the Animal actor started narrating the story of the film to the filmmaker. Seeing him narrate the story with such passion, Imtiaz felt that he was the perfect person for the film. So, he asked him if he wanted to do the film and Ranbir Kapoor replied in the affirmative. Imtiaz ended the meeting by promising to get back to the actor with the script of Rockstar.
But the director had lost the script and it was nowhere to be found. So, he had to rewrite it. “I rewrote it from memory,” Imtiaz said. The 2011 film also stars Nargis Fakhri along with Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra, Shernaz Patel, Kumud Mishra, Sanjana Sanghi, Akash Dahiya and Shammi Kapoor.
Imtiaz Ali directed the blockbuster film Amar Singh Chamkila. This biographical drama film directed by Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra was released on Netflix on April 12, 2024. Talking about Ranbir Kapoor, he is currently shooting for his upcoming project titled Ramayan. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film also stars Sai Pallavi and Yash in lead roles.
