Dhurandhar: The Revenge has created history by becoming the first Indian film to cross the AUD 1 million mark in a single day at the Australian box office. The Ranveer Singh starrer is expected to earn AUD 1.15 million on Saturday, its third day of release. Earlier, Baahubali: The Conclusion had set a single-day record for Indian cinema with an estimated AUD 800K on Saturday. On Friday itself, Dhurandhar had come within striking distance of him and missed him by just a few thousand dollars, but on Saturday he had come even further away. In doing so, Dhurandhar: The Revenge sold more than 50,000 tickets in a single day, while no other film had touched the 40,000 mark.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge achieved this feat while fighting serious capacity issues. Although this potential is the highest ever for an Indian film, considering the way the pre-sales of the film have been going since last week, it could have been even higher, especially if the competition in Hollywood was not so stiff. Without capacity issues, the film might have even reached AUD 1.50 million today. Since there are capacity constraints, there is a spread of excess demand. There are chances that the film will reach AUD 1 million again tomorrow, but the real situation is that the pre-sale on Monday is already closing at AUD 200K.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge’s three-day total is AUD 2.64 million. The weekend is headed for AUD 3.65-3.75 million, which would be a record by a wide margin. The film will reach AUD 4 million on Monday and AUD 5 million in its first week. The highest-grossing Indian film in the country is Dhurandhar at AUD 5.59 million. It wouldn’t be a surprise if it potentially dropped by Thursday, and if not, certainly by the second weekend.
