Dhurandhar The Revenge Box Office: Ranveer Singh’s film creates opening weekend records in all major markets overseas

Dhurandhar: The Revenge has achieved record-breaking opening weekend earnings across all major overseas markets including the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. Except for the United States, it is a record opener not just for Bollywood but also for Indian cinema. The last film to achieve such a clean sweep was ‘Pathan’ and before that it was ‘Dhoom 3’. These are the only three films to achieve this feat in the last twenty-five years.

There is really one market missing, the Middle East, where the film has not been released. If it had opened there, it probably would have had a shot at the record, although that would be a tough ask. Firstly, the current record is quite high, and secondly, it will face stiff competition from the Malayalam film Aadu 3, which has opened to excellent numbers. As things stand, since the film did not release in the market, it is technically no less than a record failure.

Canada had the largest margin by which it topped the previous record, nearly 50 percent more than Animal’s. Australia came in second place with 45 percent, once again beating Animal. The margin is actually even bigger because the film drove some of the demand in the two days before Friday, while Animal released on Friday. In America, it defeated Pathan by about 40 percent. It could have been more than that, but it was held back by the film’s lack of potential.

The smallest margin in the United Kingdom was about 15 percent, and here Pathan was actually ahead on Sunday. The film probably benefited from the Eid period, which performed very well in the market, although it may not be the kind of film that can be taken full advantage of. Dhurandhar: The Revenge will comfortably emerge as the highest-grossing film in the other three markets; The United Kingdom may prove to be a close call.

Following are the top five Bollywood opening weekend grossing films:
