Dhurandhar is registering extraordinary gains in the overseas markets on its first working day, Monday. Based on actual earnings from the eastern regions and pre-selling and hourly trends from the western markets, Monday is approaching or very close to its opening day. The film had already shown a strong trend over the weekend, and now its stock has gone even higher on Monday.
In Australia, the film collected AUD 180K on Monday, which is 15 percent more than Friday’s opening day and only 24 percent less than Sunday. Pre-sales for Tuesday have increased significantly from Monday, and it doesn’t stop there, with the film already recording strong pre-sales for the following days from Wednesday till the second weekend.
There was a lack of capacity for the film in Australia over the weekend, which is affecting sales, but if a film is not appreciated, all the capacity constraints mean nothing and that is what Dhurandhar got. The four-day collection has stalled at AUD 800K, and will end the first week at around AUD 1.30 million. From there, it would be easy to surpass AUD 2 million and AUD 2.50 million, with USD 3 million being a fairly realistic target.
Similarly, the film is holding strong in the United Kingdom, where hourly earnings are down more than 50 percent compared to Sunday at the time of writing. By the end of the day, it will be even better and possibly exceed its opening day earnings. There are great pre-sales for the day in Canada, which is down just a bit from its opening day, so it should be a strong day there too.
Overall, after seeing Monday’s performance, the chances of the film fully reaching US$10 million now seem quite high. With the holiday period and lack of major competition, the film could do with something even more special. We had two films like Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and Syara, which did phenomenally well, but both of them were in the light genre of rom-com or love story. Dhurandhar, being an action thriller, a genre not usually known for long legs, makes these tendencies even more notable.
