Project Hail Mary co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller react to the rescheduling of the science-fiction film’s release in India. Earlier it was believed that this film will clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

Unconfirmed buzz in the trade is that the move was necessary to avoid a box office clash with actor Ranveer Singh’s spy-thriller. Phil acknowledged how decades ago, an Indian film would have changed its release date to accommodate a big Hollywood studio film. When things turned upside down, he said, “How dare you create your own successful film industry?”
However, the director emphasized it as the growing soft power of Indian cinema. He said, “I don’t need to tell you very often, when you look at the top 10 movies in the United States, there will be a Bollywood movie. Those movies play in American theaters. Most Americans say ‘what’s that?’, but there’s a big audience for it.”

Indian films have started to gain broader cultural relevance in the US, starting with RRR” Christopher shed light on that RRR It did what many Indian films before it had not been able to do – take Indian cinema beyond its core audience in the United States, beyond just the South Asian diaspora. Sony Pictures India and IMAX India informed fans about this on Friday Project Hail MaryThe much-awaited science fiction film will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in IMAX and regular theaters in India from March 26. As per the original release plan, the film will also be seen in the country with a US debut.
In their announcement, Sony and IMAX wrote, “An update from Earth before we head into space! We want this trip to be truly out of this world. #ProjectHelmMarie will be out on March 26 in IMAX and in theaters in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu (sic).”
